Children's Ministry

We encourage families to worship together at CCPC.   Each Sunday we start our worship service together in the sanctuary.  Following the children's message, Sunday school is available for children from Cradle Roll through Senior High and occurs during the first service.  At the 11:00 service, children ages three to eight go to Kids Worship after the children's message.

Throughout the year, children and their families enjoy many activities such as tagging butterflies, movie nights, trunk-or-treating at the church, participating in Christmas pageants, sharing meals during Lenten dinners, bringing blossoms for the cross at Easter and egg hunts.  Each summer, our lively Vacation Bible School encourages children to learn more about the Bible through music, games and hands activities.  We feel strongly that children are an important part of our worship community.

Sunday

"Believe in God, believe also in me." - John 14:1
Children are dismissed for Sunday school classes after the children’s message.

Our children's Sunday school classes use the Live B.I.G. (Believing In God)curriculum. This multimedia program helps our children come to know the love of God and live out their belief in their everyday lives by utilizing the three ways children learn -- hearing, seeing, and then living what they learn.
The Live B.I.G. program blends Scripture lessons with dramatic videos, hands-on activities, discussion, music videos, songs, dance and games, each designed to catch a child's interest and help reveal the very real love of God.

Children First Grade and younger are dismissed for Kids Worship after the children’s message and gather in the Children’s Worship Center.

The children celebrate God’s goodness and mighty works through the Kids Own Worship curriculum. This multimedia program helps children learn about the unconditional love of God and why God is worthy of praise. Activities help children remember the point of the lesson and discussion starters help get children talking and sharing.

This program includes fun songs, music videos, and hands-on learning that support the ideas that the children have learned in Sunday school.

Vacation Bible School : Each summer, our lively and entertaining VBS encourages children to learn more about the Bible through music, games, crafts and other hands-on activities.  The week long, inter-generational effort brings not only the CCPC community together to teach, lead music, orchestrate crafts, prepare dinners and snacks, but members of the Youth Group are crew leaders for groups of children and members of the community help lead a community wide mission.

Nursery Schools/ Pre-School

There are two pre-schools located on the Christian Community Presbyterian Church campus: the Belair Cooperative Nursery School and the Bowie Therapeutic Nursery Center

Belair Cooperative Nursery School

The Belair Cooperative Nursery School is an accredited non-profit, non-sectarian, and non-partisan organization.  Its purpose is to provide children with a group experience that extends the values of family life by fostering a sense of community involvement. The school encourages participation in the natural, social, and cultural environment. Parental involvement is an essential part of this school.
The school operates five days a week, from September through May. They offer programs for 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds. The 3-year-old class meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 to 12:00. The 4-year-old class meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 9:00 to 12:00. Classes are limited to 15 students each.

The Nursery School at CCPC

After more than 40 years of providing quality nursery school opportunities to the children of Bowie, May 29, 2009 marked the last day of operation for the Nursery School at CCPC. A number of factors, including the economy and the creation of no-cost pre-school programs in the public schools, led to a situation where the school could no longer operate as a fiscally viable institution. Special thanks go to CCPC members Myrna and Steve Webb, Barbara Merchant, and Paul Bolig, as well as parent Margaret Thomas, who gave many hours of support in an attempt to keep the school operating.

The Nursery School at CCPC, an independent organization approved by the Maryland State Department of Education, is a developmentally-oriented program designed to develop strong feelings of self-worth and positive feelings about “school.”  Activities are planned in the areas of reading readiness, math readiness, fine and gross motor development, socialization, music, art, language, social studies, science and problem solving. Classes for three-year olds and four-year olds are held on five, three and two mornings. The program runs September through May and generally follows the Prince George’s public school calendar.

Bowie Therapeutic Nursery Center

Bowie Therapeutic Nursery Center specializes in the diagnosis, education, treatment through early intervention for those children, ages 3 to 5, who have social and emotional difficulties, and those who may also be experiencing developmental delays. This private, licensed, non-profit, non-sectarian center is open year round from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.  A multidisciplinary team addresses the emotional, cognitive, social and other needs of children and their relationships with their families.
