Children's Ministry

We encourage families to worship together at CCPC.   Each Sunday we start our worship service together in the sanctuary.  Following the children's message, Sunday school is available for children from Cradle Roll through Senior High and occurs during the first service.

At 10:30, parents of children in Cradle Roll should pick them up from Cradle Roll.  Toddlers through kindergartners should be picked up in the Busy Bee Room at 10:30.  Teachers of children in grades one through five will bring the children to Dodds Hall at 10:30.

Throughout the year, children and their families enjoy many activities such as tagging butterflies, movie nights, trunk-or-treating at the church, participating in Christmas pageants, sharing meals during Lenten dinners, bringing blossoms for the cross at Easter and egg hunts.  Each summer, our lively Vacation Bible School encourages children to learn more about the Bible through music, games and hands activities.  We feel strongly that children are an important part of our worship community.

Sunday

"Believe in God, believe also in me." - John 14:1
Children are dismissed for Sunday school classes after the children’s message.

Our children's Sunday school classes use the Live B.I.G. (Believing In God) curriculum. This multimedia program helps our children come to know the love of God and live out their belief in their everyday lives by utilizing the three ways children learn -- hearing, seeing, and then living what they learn.

The Live B.I.G. program blends Scripture lessons with dramatic videos, hands-on activities, discussion, music videos, songs, dance and games, each designed to catch a child's interest and help reveal the very real love of God.

Vacation Bible School : Each summer, our lively and entertaining VBS encourages children to learn more about the Bible through music, games, crafts and other hands-on activities.  The week long, inter-generational effort brings not only the CCPC community together to teach, lead music, orchestrate crafts, prepare dinners and snacks, but members of the Youth Group are crew leaders for groups of children and members of the community help lead a community-wide mission.

Trunk or Treat

CCPC enjoys its own version of Trick or Treat, as costumed children make the rounds of members' decorated car trunks gathering candy and treats. Prior to gathering candy, the children have a carnival in Dodds Hall. The Youth Group organizes a Haunted House.

Blessing of the Backpacks

As our children prepare to return to school, we give them a special blessing.  A prayer from a previous "blessing of the backpacks":

Thank you God for these children. Bless them as they go to school - preschool, grade school, middle & high schools - even college. Guard them, and guide them. Send your angels to camp around them and their schools. Give each of them a good friend to play with and eat lunch with. Bless all of their teachers, and help each one of these children as they learn new things - and as they do their homework. Dear God, give all of these children a wonderful year of new experiences and exciting things. Let them each know that You love them - even more than we love them.

Thank you for being our God.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

Maundy Thursday

The service includes liturgical dance with special music. The children will accompany the cross outside the church and assist in placing it in the ground.

Vacation Bible School

Pandamania, where God is wild about you, had kids making friends, singing and dancing, doing crafts, playing in the water-- and most importantly-- learning about God! Registration was free and open to all children Pre-K through 5th grade. Crews leaders for each group included youth sixth grade through high school.  The mission project was collecting school supplies.

CCPC provided Galactic Blast, an out-of-this-world Vacation Bible School adventure in 2010. Cadets started their journeys at 6:00 p.m. each night with dinner and then began their mission of fun with games, stories, and even science experiments. Registration was free and open to all children Pre-K through 5th grade.

The VBS mission project was Soles for Souls. We collected new and gently worn shoes for those without shoes. The children enjoy being involved and giving back to the community--the shoes were delivered to Haiti in person by Marilee Neff.
