But What About All the Contradictions In the Bible?
Mary Brock will be teaching a six week class on contradictions in the Bible starting on Sunday, March 14 at 9:30 am in the conference room.
Description: Critics complain that since there are so many contradictions in the Bible, it's impossible for a reasonable person to believe in God. Still, many Christians maintain that the Bible is without error. Yet why are there two Creation stories? What about the different genealogies of Jesus? Which conquest account do we believe: Joshua or Judges? Are the various tools of interpretation mere attempts at justification for "their side" or do they offer sound logic? Come prepared to think!
Women: Circles, Retreats, and Book Groups
Through the Presbyterian Women of the Church (PWOC), CCPC offers women opportunities for growing spiritually, developing joyous and caring friendships, and providing resources for our sisters and brother around the world through mission projects. We look forward to our retreat each spring to refresh and renew our spirits while meeting new sisters in Christ. We have an annual luncheon for all the women of the church at which time we celebrate the results of the election of a woman to Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women, the national organization. Carrie Casto and Julia Leaman lead POWC for 2009-2010. Stimulating daytime and evening book groups provide opportunities to read and discuss books selected by the group.

Circles
Because women have different needs and interests, and are at different places in their faith journey and participation in mission, CCPC’s PWOC offers eight circles. “Circles" are groups that provide a supportive community to respond to the needs of the women in our congregation. Programs are planned by members, and each offers a slightly different focus. Circles meet monthly with devotions, prayers, offering for women around the world, and a lesson. Many circles use the Horizons Bible Study materials developed by the Presbyterian Church.
So that all the women of the church have an opportunity to participate, some circles meet during the day and others meet in the evenings. “There’s always room for one more,” so contact the leader to learn more about a circle that you are interested in…or just show up for a meeting.
Charity Circle meets at 10:00 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month in the church parlor. Joy Bible leads this group of recently retired women in lively discussion, sharing, laughter, and study. “The welcome mat is always out.”
Covenant Circle, led by Jane Sumner, meets at 10:00 a.m. on the first Wednesday of the month in members’ homes. These seniors have a strong network of caring relationships. They enjoy their time together, sharing and growing.
Discovery Circle meets on the second Sunday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the parlor. Lillian Cates leads this group of working women, many of whom have younger and older children. “We support each other unconditionally through life transitions, relationships, and challenges. We are always open to new members and ideas!”
Faith Circle, led by Shirley Doyle, meets on the second Monday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in members’ homes. This group of retired women enjoys learning together and would like to have new members join in the discussion.
Grace & Glory Circle meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in members’ homes. Alex Mather Bourne and Laurel Cox lead this energetic group of women, young and young at heart, who enjoys the fellowship of their sisters in Christ and learning from one another. “It's not always just about the lesson in the book.”
Hope Circle, led by Marjorie Tanner, meets in members’ homes at 10:00 a.m. on the third Monday of the month. These active retirees have a monthly mission project, such as collecting socks for the Community Café. The study materials spark stimulating discussions. They welcome new members into their fellowship.
Joy Circle meets the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in members’ homes. Nancy Phillips leads this group of mostly retired women who have lots of fun learning, sharing and growing together. “Come join the fun!”
New Hope Circle, led by Rusty Owens and Peggy Oates, meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in members’ homes. This diverse group of women in various stages of life appreciates learning together and supporting each other through the both the joys and tribulations of life.
