We're doing it again.....FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY!! FPU is a 13-week life changing program on personal finance. It is designed to empower people to manage their money better, eliminate debt and build wealth. Wondering where your next paycheck is going? Don't understand stocks, bonds, mutual funds or how to invest for retirement or college funding? Do you feel like your money has control over you?? If so, come to an orientation on either 1/8/06 at 9:45am between services, or 1/15/06 at 1:00pm. Classes will actually start on Sunday, January 29th and run from 1:00pm-3:00pm. For additional information call Michelle Simpson at 301-809-1121.
What is FPU?
FPU is the most important step to changing your financial future. It is your Total Money Makeover Program. It takes the head knowledge from the books and the radio show and turns it into real action.
FPU is a 13-week, life-changing program that empowers and teaches you how to make the right money decisions to achieve your financial goals and experience a total money makeover.
Who is FPU for?
It's for EVERYONE from the financially secure to the financially distressed. Over 180,000 families and individuals have attended FPU at their workplace, church, military base, or community group.
On average these families have paid off over $5,300 in debt and saved $2,700 during this 91-day program!
Daily worship in the Sanctuary. From the beginning of the Christian era, scripture has been proclaimed in church buildings, often several times each and every day of the year. Again this year at 7:15 a.m. each morning during Lent (which excludes Sundays) the morning selections from the Daily Common Lectionary will be read in our sanctuary. After the readings, the daily prayer from the Presbyterian Book of Common Worship will be read. The entire proceedings are expected to last no longer than 15 minutes, and all are welcome. The north door of the sanctuary (the one facing the Bowie Library) will be open, giving direct access to the sanctuary. The time was changed this year to better accommodate students at Bowie High School, where classes start at 7:45.
Who Benefits from Stephen Ministry?
We have many needs for care in our congregation and community: people experiencing divorce, grief, a terminal illness, relocation, loss of a job, empty nest, retirement, loneliness, and many other challenges. Often people with needs suffer silently or do not request the level of care they really need. With only one pastor for a congregation of nearly 400 people, you can see why it is impossible to meet every need of every person. With Stephen Ministry in place at CCPC, caring ministry will be expanded and care receivers will receive prayer and support throughout the crisis they face.
Stephen Ministry expands the care CCPC can offer by equipping and organizing members to provide Christian care. This gives us a larger pool of people with the gifts, skills, and calling to bring Christ's love and care to those who most need it. These Stephen Ministers will benefit through the spiritual growth they experience from being involved in meaningful ministry.
Most of all, you benefit from the knowledge that special care is available should you ever need it. In addition, you will have a place where you can refer a friend, neighbor, co-worker, relative, or anyone else you know who is going through a difficult time so they can receive special care when they need it most. Stephen Ministry will make CCPC a much more caring place!
Please consider your gifts and think about whether you are called to join the first Stephen Ministry class that will begin after Easter.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the
Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen.
What is a Lenten Dinner? For many years (perhaps as many as 25) CCPC has been keeping a tradition of having Lenten Dinners on the Fridays during the Lenten season. Delicious meals are prepared by the various groups in the church. Children are welcome, and special foods and activities are organized for them as well. The first Lenten dinner will take place on March 3 at 6:30 pm in Dodd's Hall. Plan to attend and become a part of the fellowship enjoyed by all. Cost is $2.50 - children under three are free.
Lenten Dinner #1 - March 3 - Paper Tigers' Chicken BBQ
Lenten Dinner #2 - March 10 - Youth fundraiser - Chicken Pot Pies
Lenten Dinner #3 - March 17 - Deacons' Baked Potato Bash

It’s time to start planning for the All-Church Habitat for Humanity Work Camp scheduled for June 25- July 1. Sign up sheets will be available in the atrium starting March 19th.
BOOKS FOR D’IBERVILLE
CCPC’s Katrina Project is off to a great start. We have reports of church members telling others about it, and receiving spontaneous donations from them! To remind you, D’Iberville High School Library is in need of many books to replace those which were damaged or lost, and has provided a list of 90+ books ranging in price from $7.99 to $75. The Mission Committee decided that this was a need that CCPC could fill. We are asking members of CCPC who would like to purchase books to make a donation to CCPC marked “DHS Books”. You can put your contribution in the offering plate, or leave it in the church office. We will receive donations through the end of March and purchase as many books as we can. If we should receive more funds than are needed for books, we will use the additional money for requested school supplies.
If you have been thinking about helping with this project, now is the time to do so. Don’t wait until the last minute—contribute soon! Thanks.
Marjorie Tanner, Mission Chairman
Wisdom literature is a genre of literature common in the Ancient Near East. Wisdom is really an approach to life, a way of looking at the world and,for Israelites, a way of living out in very deliberate, rational ways their commitment to God. The wisdom perspectives did not replace the other two major strands of thought in Ancient Israel, that of prophets and priests. It was simply a different focus that was complementary with the other perspectives.
Our discussion will focus on the nature and use of biblical wisdom literature, as well as introductions to the following Biblical books which are classified as wisdom literature: Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs (also known as Song of Solomon), Wisdom (Apocryphal book, also known as Wisdom of Solomon), Sirach (Apocryphal book, also known as Ben Sira or Ecclesiasticus), James (New Testament book).Join us in Dodd's Hall on Sunday at 9:45 am

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING
Your support of One Great Hour of Sharing brings fresh water to thirsty communities around the world. Roughly 1.1 billion people worldwide lack access to safe water. Nearly all of them live in developing countries. Without a stable water source many people suffer from thirst, famine, and disease.
One Great Hour of Sharing supports initiatives to drill local wells designed to protect water from contamination and to provide basic sanitation. “When was it that we saw you thirsty and gave you something to drink?” they asked. And Jesus answered them, “When you did it to the least of these…”
It is remarkable what your gift will do! Marjorie Tanner
