“When I am with those who are oppressed, I share their oppression so that I might bring them to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone so that I might bring them to Christ. I do all of this to spread the good news, and in doing so I enjoy its blessings.” 1 Corinthians 9:22-23 (NLT)

Vision Statement:
We believe that the only way to true community revitalization is through Spiritual renewal within the individuals of the community. As individuals collectively turn their hearts toward God the community will effectively be renewed.
Mission Statement:
Introduce nonbelievers to a new life with the Lord through a relationship with his Son, Jesus Christ, and Strengthen believers in their walk with the Lord in order to Send them back into their communities to introduce and strengthen others also.
Introduce:
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NIV)
Romans 10:10 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (NIV)
Strengthen:
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (NIV)
John 15:8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (NIV)
Send:
Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (NIV)
Romans 10:14-15 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (NIV)
History:
Common Ground started in the spring of 2003. During prayer and quiet time one day, the Lord placed on the co-founder Steve Gordon’s heart a vision, for inner-city ministry, working specifically with families in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland. The Leadership team for Common Ground Outreach for Christ currently consists of seven members: Steven Gordon, Brian and Amanda Salveron, Katy Shaffer, Jonathan Shaffer, and Henry and Mari-Jan Sieradzki.
Common Ground Outreach for Christ became incorporated in late October 2003 and became federally recognized as a non-profit organization shortly thereafter. During a time of prayer and meditation, the Lord impressed on the co-founder Brian Salveron, the name, Common Ground Outreach for Christ. This name draws its inspiration from the Apostle Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians: “When I am with those who are oppressed, I share their oppression so that I might bring them to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone so that I might bring them to Christ. I do all of this to spread the good news, and in doing so I enjoy its blessings.” 1 Corinthians 9:22-23 (NLT)
Program Plan for “A Place of Common Ground”
A Ministry of Common Ground Outreach for Christ
Common Ground Outreach for Christ is a new ministry that will be located in the Sandtown-Winchester section of West Baltimore City. We have chosen Sandtown-Winchester as the starting place for our Ministry because of the social ills this community has to deal with on a daily basis. This community once was a vibrant, predominantly African-American community, however now the community suffers from severe drug infiltration, crime, violence, disease, broken families, and extreme poverty. One epidemic which the community faces is AIDS. It is our desire as a Ministry to minister to those who struggle with the pressures of this community as well as those who are suffering from AIDS. It is projected that 1 out of 3 people who live in this community is HIV positive and there are over 800 AIDS orphans alone residing in Sandtown-Winchester. Initially it was our desire to focus our efforts on those who have been orphaned by AIDS, but as we began to work closer in the community we found that there were several other factions of suffering that need our focus and attention. There are many Ministries that help these people with meeting their physical needs with the hope of bringing them to Christ. Our focus will be a little different. We are not a social Ministry, but rather we are a Ministry that the Lord has created to help meet the emotional needs of this Community.
We believe that as a people begin to have their emotional needs met, then they will be able to accept the healing power of the Lord and His message much more clearly, thus opening the door for us to share the Good News of Christ with them.
We are in the process of building up our Prayer and Financial Support Team. We would like to challenge you to Pray and seek the Lord’s Guidance about committing yourselves or your Church to faithfully praying for Common Ground Outreach for Christ. We believe that consistent prayer of His faithful Servants is the foundation of any Spiritual renewal or movement, thus, making prayer a vital part of seeing His Will being done in Sandtown-Winchester. We also believe that the Lord will raise up faithful men, women, and Churches to come along beside common Ground to support our Ministry financially. If you have been led to either consistently pray and or financially support Common Ground please call, e-mail, or write us so we can be in contact with you or meet with you.
