The Pastor's Corner
Last year a colleague of mine had a beloved elder pass away unexpectedly. The church was in shock. What would they do without Grace? When my colleague went to see Grace's daughter to plan the memorial service he was given the following list of resolutions that was found on Grace's refrigerator door beneath a magnet. I found her "Prayer of Resolution" worth repeating as we begin the church year and commit ourselves to becoming a stronger church family.
"7-Ups for the New Year" by Walter Schoedel.
Wake-up: Begin each new day with the Lord. It is God's day. Rejoice in it.
Dress-up: Put on a smile. It improves your looks. It says a lot about your faith and attitude.
Shut-up: Watch your tongue. Do not gossip. Say nice things if you say anything. Learn to listen.
Stand-up: Take a stand for what you believe. Resist evil. Do good.
Look- up: Open your eyes to the Lord. After all, God loves you and forgives you.
Reach-up: Spend time in prayer and adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication to God.
Lift-up: Be available to those in need: resolve to be serving, supporting, and sharing.
I don't know Grace but I have discovered shared characteristics of every saint like her. They begin each day determined to make a difference by being positive, thankful, and available. If you do those things everything else tends to fall into place.
James Brassard
Worship Notes for Sunday, September 23rd:
In Luke 16 we find the "Parable of the Unjust Steward." Here Jesus praises a business manager who was caught cheating on his employer and was going to be fired. The manager said to himself "Gosh, what am I going to do now? I'm not strong enough to do manual labor and I'll die before I stand on the street corner with a tin cup in my hand?" So he comes up with a plan to ingratiate himself with the people who owe his boss money by writing off some of the debt. When he gets caught doing this his boss incredibly praises him for his shrewdness. Jesus ends the parable by praising the dishonest manger for his shrewdness. There are some important lessons here on using money to make friends and for what to do when money fails us. See you Sunday!

Community Cafe
Friday, September 14th was our day for visiting The Community Cafe. Thursday afternoon, a crew of eight gathered in the CCPC kitchen to make sandwiches and assemble snacks and cookies for the bag lunches. Those participating were Mary Hazel, Sylvia Dunlap, Sharon McNamara, Cal and Lois Pals, Bob and Jackie Smith.
We left the church Friday morning at 11:15 to travel to the Cafe in Hyattsville. Serving a lunch of pizza, salad, fruit and dessert were Marjorie Tanner, Dave and Nancy Honeyford and Bob and Jackie Smith. After lunch, we distributed the bag lunches, socks and Jane Sumner's personal care packets which are always a big hit.
Jane would like to thank everyone who contributed to the packets. We appreciate the contributions and help we receive from everyone.
Thank you, Jackie Smith

Theater Troupe Auditions
CCPC Theater Troupe Presents
A Kid's Night at CCPC
Why should the adults have all the fun?
Auditions: September 30th
12:30-2:30PM
Please come prepared with your "act." It can be a song, a dance, a skit, a comedy routine, use your imagination! Bring sheet music if you want Susan to accompany you.
We are looking for soloists, duets, groups, production numbers, whatever you can think of. If it is entertaining, we will put it in the show. We can help you with ideas if you get really stumped. In fact, the theme of the show is:
(Drum roll)
80's Big Hair Rock Stars!
**ask your parents for inspiration**
It doesn't have to be that--can be anything you can think of. The only rule: you need to be under 18 to audition. (Sorry, the older set will have their chance in February). We may not be able to do all acts because of time constraints so: Call your friends and do some brain-storming! Show us what you got!!!
The Show will be on November 17th from 7- 9PM
Rehearsals are minimal, mainly Sundays. You do not need to be a member of CCPC to audition --- Open to the community. Proceeds to benefit Christmas Families. For more info: Contact Linda Miller, Susan Rogel or Melodie.
Hope to see you there!
