The Pastor's Corner
Many of you were caught off guard by the announcement in the July 9th Caller that Ajibade Jegede is no longer serving as CCPC's Director of Youth and Family Ministry. Some common questions were: What happened? Why the sudden change?
Perhaps the best explanation for the decision to make a change is that CCPC and Ajibade Jegede were "not a good fit."
Ajibade, the Youth Council (led by Elders Astrid Jonas and James Rada), and Children's Ministry (led by Elders Carrie Casto and Laurel Cox) tried to make adjustments beginning in January. The Personnel Committee (under the leadership of Elder Bob McCamish) also tried to help bring changes that would make the programs more effective. Although good faith efforts to improve the programs were made by Ajibade, the Youth Council, Children's Ministry, and CCPC members, it never came together.
This was not a sudden decision. It was the result of several months of diligent effort by the Youth Council, Children's Ministry, Personnel, Ajibade, and myself. After considerable discussion and prayerful deliberation, both the Personnel Committee and the Session unanimously decided it would be best for both parties to make a change now. By placing Ajibade on Paid Administrative Leave until his contract expires at the end of December, he will have 6 months to find a new position that better utilizes his gifts and passion to serve Jesus Christ. With Shawn and Ajibade expecting their second child in early September, this will ease the burden of that considerable adjustment. This also gives the Youth Council and Children's Ministry the rest of the summer to plan a transition for our Youth and Children's programs.
Shawn Jegede will preach on July 29th about how we can participate with God in establishing his kingdom and will "on earth as it is in heaven" through prayer. Texts are: Matthew 6:5-13 (which includes the Lord's prayer) and John 5:17-20. A baby shower for the Jegede's will follow in Dodds Hall.
Please pray for the Jegede family and our church as we move forward in serving Jesus Christ.
James Brassard
Worship Notes for Sunday, July 29th:
- Summer Choir Rehearsal at 9:15AM
- Worship Service at 10AM
- Jegede Family Baby Shower - 12 noon in Dodds Hall
Next Sunday, August 5, 2007
- 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
- COMMUNION
- Worship Service at 10AM
- Worship Team Music Set
Rev Brassard returns to talk about the interplay of "Persistence and prayer." In Luke 11, Jesus links a series of Parables to the Lord's prayer. Although they are about prayer, they are more about encouraging Christians to be persistent in faith, even when their fervent prayers and hard work are not producing the desired results. The sermon title is "Are You Up to the Task?" Communion will be celebrated and the Worship Team will lead congregational singing.

Lady Tigers Update
We finished discussing 'Founding Mothers.' Most who were present felt that this book gave a much more detailed and accurate picture of the problems faced by the families as well as the soldiers. Families were frequently displaced again and again often accompanied by the complete destruction of their homes and estates. Families were separated for years from one another and the death of husbands as soldiers left mothers and children destitute. Disease played a big role in the loss of children at an early age. It was a tragic time for all of the colonists. It was very clear that the wives and female associates of the political leaders at that time in our history played a huge role in many small unnoticed ways yet nonetheless important.
The author is scheduled to come out this Fall with a follow-up book on the women in other president's lives. It should give us an opportunity to get a new perspective on "the behind the scenes" of various administrations.
We will meet again on Thursday, July 26th at which time we will begin discussing 'Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons.' Please do join us if you have the time.

Paper Tigers
We completed "While Europe Slept" and chose our next book: "The Creation" by E. O. Wilson. We also changed our summer plans and will continue to meet through August 22. If you need a break from the intensive discussions of the group, we understand.
We agreed to view and discuss the six cassette program "The Power of Myth" over the next six weeks. The series is based on a book by Joseph Campbell and is a series of interviews with him just before he died with Bill Moyers. We will play one cassette (about an hour) each week with discussion to follow.
We will host a breakfast on Sept 5th and begin our next book on Sept 12.

A Note from Audrey Scott
Dear Friends in Christ,
I have spent more than half my life as a member of CCPC - a journey that began 41 years ago. During that time, I have formed incredible friendship's, been challenged and stretched both personally and spiritually and, more than anything else, witnessed God incarnate within our church and our community. The many blessings that I have experienced I can and do attribute to my church family here at CCPC. While the time has come to move to a new community, I will forever be a part of CCPC. I will forever cherish the many friendships, pastors, sermons, music, Session, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, Retreats, Circles, Stewardship, Bridge Clubs and, of course, my ongoing faith journey.
Words cannot adequately express my deep appreciation and gratitude for the wonderful Farewell Fest held in my honor last Sunday. I obviously have mixed emotions, a combination of sadness in leaving and excitement in facing a new faith experience. Laughter is a wonderful antidote to sadness and tears the balm to ease the pain, and we had a liberal dose of each as we recalled some of the adventures and misadventures of the past 41 years.
I want to thank Patty Adams and Sharon Youngdahl and their committees for the luncheon and production. I thank them for their discrete selection of shared memories and for their enthusiasm in recounting the many tales. Thank you to the membership for the many cards and well wishes and for your friendship and support over the years, especially in times of need and sorrow.
May God continue to bless each and every one of you and may CCPC continue to shine His light as a beacon of love and redemption for the people of Bowie and beyond, forever and ever. Amen.
In His Love, Audrey

Special Thanks
Thanks to all the Wonderful people who helped in making Audrey's feast/roast a fun day. Margie Clark was as "wonder woman" and Audrey's Tuesday evening bridge group, New Hope Circle and many of Audrey's friends who made food donations.
Special Thanks to Sharon Youngdahl and her crew along with Hamer Campbell who was as witting as usual and Sharon's "Hello Dolly" was just priceless. It was a delight to see many of Audrey's family attending and enjoying the various comments. Audrey's speech was so touching and we all know that she is not far away and will be returning to our church for various functions.
Our LOVE and BEST to a Wonderful Gal!
Patty Adams

| Religious Funnies
Sunday after church, a Mom asked her very young daughter what the lesson was about. The daughter answered, "Don't be scared, you'll get your quilt." Needless to say, the Mom was perplexed. Later in the day, the pastor stopped by for tea and the Mom asked him what that morning's Sunday school lesson was about. He said "Be not afraid, thy comforter is coming."
