The Pastor's Corner
Your Invitation to Stephen Minister Commissioning
Throughout history when God has called people to special ministry members of their community have commissioned them for important new work. We invite you to carry on that tradition by participating in the commissioning service for CCPC's new class of Stephen Ministers during worship on Sunday.
Our new Stephen Ministers-Scott Brock, Dennis Evans, and Roxanne Johnson--have already completed substantial training to equip them for their task. The commissioning service offers an opportunity to show our support for this ministry. Our Stephen Ministers will be depending on our support in the time ahead.
How can we show our support? First of all, we can pray for our Stephen Leaders, Stephen Ministers, and their care receivers. This ministry calls for both time and effort. The assurance of our prayers and appreciation will help keep them moving forward.
We can also affirm and show our appreciation for this valuable ministry. We can tell them how much their hard work means to us, tell others how much we value this ministry, and bless and affirm everyone involved.
We can become involved in Stephen Ministry ourselves. Some of us may recognize a call to use our gifts and apply to become a Stephen Minister. Others may accept the care of a Stephen Minister. We can be ministers of referral, watching for people in need and suggesting a Stephen Minister's care. s we commission our newly trained Stephen Ministers, let us thank God for all that they will bring to CCPC as they minister among us.

For Laughs
A minister parked his car in a no-parking zone in a large city because he was short of time and couldn't find a space with a meter. Then he put a note under the windshield wiper that read: "I have circled the block 10 times. If I don't park here, I'll miss my appointment. Forgive us our trespasses." When he returned, he found a citation from a police officer along with this note "I've circled this block for 10 years. If I don't give you a ticket I'll lose my job. Lead us not into temptation."

VBS
CCPC Children's Ministry would like to invite all members of CCPC to join us in promoting our summer Vacation Bible School. "TAKE THE PLUNGE" will be a water park themed week of lessons, games and crafts. Pam Garwacki has generously volunteered to direct this week long event.
Please mark your calendars for July 15-20.
If you are looking for a position to fill for one night, or the entire week contact Pam to volunteer! Please watch The Caller for donation requests ... we will be looking for items to help us pull this event together (for starters - if you have "spare" beach towels they would be a fabulous back up for the children who forget theirs). Hang on to your life preserver!!
It will be a week of fun and excitement sure to make a splash with kids of all ages. The twisting and turning will begin each day at 6:00PM and end at 8:30PM, July 15-20 at CCPC. To dive into the excitement, sign up at the SPLASH ZONE registration table in the Narthex every Sunday until July 8th. Donations are always acccepted.
Please bring your child with his/her bathing suit on and a beach towel as they PLUNGE into worshiping the Lord. Dinner will be provided nightly, with a potluck dinner on Friday night.
For further information, contact Pamela Garwacki, this year's director of VBS.
We look forward to seeing your child PLUNGE into learning about Jesus.

Emergency Committee
If we were to hear a news announcement that Washington DC has again been attacked, would you and your family be prepared to find each other and know what to do?
Do you have a plan that tells you where everything is that you might need in the next few hours or even for a few weeks? Most of us know we should, but are good at putting it off.
We can now say CCPC does have an Emergency Response Plan that will be continually updated by our committee. The congregation, as a body of Christ, does want to know if its family is safe and if help is needed in a time of crisis, either in our town or in the communities surrounding us. We hope it isn't needed for a national emergency, but it is more likely to be used for Power Outages, Hurricanes or Tornados.
Within a few days, you will receive an information packet via e-mail Please take time to read all four pages. Return to the box in the atrium two forms. 1) the survey that will tell us if you have a skill or talent that might be useful in a crisis. If you already completed this in November you do not need to repeat it. 2) The second form is a new form asking you for family emergency telephone numbers "in the area" and "out of the area" and if you have adult or child family members with special needs (oxygen, medications needing refrigeration, diabetes, deafness, etc).
Return this form in a sealed envelope and drop in the slotted box in the atrium or place it in the secretary's box (Renee), located in the church office. The family information form will be kept confidential in the church office and only used in an emergency.
We need for many more surveys to be returned to make our efforts work in a time of crisis. We especially need more men to be on the various teams. The teams organized are Communication; Care of Pets; Food, prepare and/or deliver; Health Counseling; House Repairs; Prayers, listeners and referrals; Transport to shelters or safe places.
The committee is excited as we slowly progress toward a complete emergency response plan that could be put into action and applied to many different situations. Any questions, call Jan Bridger, Committee Chair or Susan Mather, co-Chair.

| Lady Tigers
The Lady Tigers Book Group continues to meet through the summer on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 10:00AM in the Church Parlor. We read Fiction during the summer
Lady Tigers finished the discussion of Karen Armstrong's book on Islam. Those present felt that we have benefited from reading the two last books on Islam in that we have broadened our knowledge of the history of Islam and our understanding of the challenges with Islam as well as those to Christianity from the current militant and violent actions.
For the summer we will read: Founding Mothers by Cokie Roberts, Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons by Lorna Lanvik, and Digging to America by Anne Tyler (paperback edition out in August).
The Lady Tigers meet next Thursday, June 28th at which time we will discuss the first four chapters of Founding Mothers. The Cokie Roberts is available from Amazon.com for as low as $8.96 + shipping. It is also available at bookstores. It was published in 2004.
We hope to see you for the discussion of this book.

| Beautification Committee
Our thanks to the 14-person work crew that turned out this Saturday morning to complete the job of spreading mulch on the front part of the church campus.
Dick Arnold had already supervised the placement of rocks to help drainage and improve conditions for mowing the front campus. The crew finished the half of the mulch job that Dick hadn't already completed by himself!
Thanks to Joan Pitkin, Nancy and Dave Honeyford, Paul Sell, Gary Cox, Travis Lynch, Peter Tutini, Thad Uehling, Hamer Campbell, Steve Webb, Richard Owens, Don Salisbury, Charles Dziduch and Skip Oates.
With everyone's help, our campus continues to improve!
Thanks, Bob Shelby
