The Pastor's Corner
The Paper Tigers recently finished Francis S. Collins book "The Language of Faith: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief." Collins, the director of the National Genome Research Institute, was the featured speaker at February's National Prayer Breakfast. Collins led the singing at the breakfast on his guitar. In asking to use a hymn written by Thomas Troeger, Collins wrote, "I will try to explain the ways in which science can be a form of worship of God the creator. But for many of us, words are so much more powerful when coupled with music-and your remarkable lyrics, sung to a great tune, would be the perfect summation of what I want to convey."
At the breakfast Collins noted that "some may find it ironic that last years speaker, the rock star Bono, spoke about justice and world economics, but passed up the chance to sing. Now this year's speaker, a scientist who might be considered a bit of a nerd, proposes to sing and play guitar."
Like many believers, Collins knows that music carries the story of faith better then any other use of words. The weekly singing of hymns and praise songs not only glorify God, they inspire our faith. Those that saw "Love Songs" came away with new songs from which they will better remember the life of Jesus. The children, youth and adults who learned all the songs by heart will be forever blessed by the words and the tunes.
I have always been thankful for the music at CCPC. We have been richly blessed by our music leadership. Susan, Scott, Kevin and our choirs have just been terrific this past year. We will hear more of their musical gifts during Music Sunday on May 20th. On May 20th, we begin our summer worship schedule. Worship is at 10AM with a "summer choir" rehearsing before the service. I will make sure that plenty of vibrant congregational singing is part of each summer worship experience. James Brassard

Getting To Know You!
Come to the Forum on May 13 and get to know your fellow worshipers better. Since it is Mother's Day, we will begin by sharing with those at our table the best (or worst) advice my mother ever gave me and one of her favorite sayings.
We'll have a chance to get better acquainted with our new members as well as learning new things about people we've known for years.
We hope to see you in Dodds Hall at 9:45AM!!

Interim Giving Statements
Last week, interim giving records for the first four months of 2007 were mailed out. We will be sending out giving statements three times per year: on April 30, August 31 and at year end. We are doing this to give you additional feedback. Our hope is that providing these interim reports will enable you to check for errors and to assess your giving with respect to your pledge, while there is time to make adjustments. If you have questions or concerns, please call the Financial Secretary-Ron Stokes.

Heartfelt Thanks
You never know what great and small surprises might greet you on any ordinary day, but Sunday, May 6, was extra ordinary. Worship, forum, presenting Bibles to the 4th graders and "Love Song" are exciting ways to keep the Sabbath; but the surprise of being honored as an Honorary Life Member from the Presbyterian Church (USA) is extraordinary! Thank you so very much. My life at CCPC has been greatly enriched by the women of the church. I've been a member of New Hope and Charity Circles, blessed by Women's Retreats and touched by the deep caring of my friends in Christ.
Sincere, Heartfelt thanks,
Dee McCarty

Adventure Bible Thank Yous!
Many thanks to Ajibade Jegede and Dee McCarty for the distribution of bibles to our fourth graders. The presentation was wonderful. Thanks to Debbie Hoppe for the crochet cross bookmarks to include in their bibles.
The Children's Ministry
"It's been our great pleasure to present special versions of the Bible to our 4th graders. It was my special treat to have the congregation meet Christy Ahearn, Ross Dudley, Patrick Cable and Claire Leaman this past Sunday, as they were introduced.
We thank Karen Cable for representing Patrick.
Blessings,
Dee McCarty."

Church Survey Participation
I am currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Pastoral Ministry to build on my previous pastoral experience and enhance my skills and awareness. Through a project required as part of the coursework, I am helping do some of the ground work for establishing the community/church support groups mentioned above.
YOU CAN BE A HUGE HELP by spending just a few moments answering a few questions about your personal experiences of giving and receiving pastoral care in a congregational setting. There are no other obligations beyond the survey and it is completely anonymous.
Between services, on Sunday May 13 and 20, I will be in the foyer passing out surveys that you can complete at your convenience during coffee hour. I will also ask for volunteers to take a survey to a neighbor in the Bowie community. Together, we can help CCPC stay connected to our community.
Blessings,
Shawn Jegede

| Living Waters For The World
TEAM MEMBER(S) NEEDED
CCPC'S Mission Committee would like to participate in the Living Waters for the World project to bring clean water to those in need. In order to create the core of a clean water team we need at least one more person who is willing to take the five-day training required. The team consists of a minimum of three persons who take the training and are then able to train others in the church. We have two people who have already agreed to take the Clean Water U course. The training is designed to equip mission teams with the skills necessary to form partnerships with communities in need of clean water, to install the water purification system and to equip local leaders to lead ongoing health, hygiene and spiritual education. LWW is an example of reaching out in love in a tangible way to improve people's lives. Their website is http://www.livingwatersfortheworld.org.
If you are interested in this project or would like further information, please contact Marjorie Tannert.
