The Pastor's Corner
Worship notes for Sunday, April 15th:
2nd Sunday of Easter
I will be away at a pastor’s leadership conference in Princeton, New Jersey from Tuesday through Thursday. As a follow up to Easter I offer this story. First I wanted to thank the music staff and singers and ringers who bless us with the outstanding music on Easter morning. I really liked the last hymn, “In Christ Alone.” What a great summary of the life and message of Jesus.
Imagine the mystery and delight of not only hearing but seeing the story of Jesus for the first time, almost as an eyewitness?
That's what happened to a primitive tribe in the jungles of East Asia, when missionaries showed them the Jesus film. Not only had these people never heard of Jesus, they had never seen a motion picture. Then, all at once, on one unforgettable evening, they saw it all-the gospel in their own language, visible and real.
Imagine again, then, how it would feel to see for the first time this good man Jesus, who healed the sick and was adored by children, held without trial and beaten by jeering soldiers. As they watch this, the people came unglued. They stood up and began to shout at the cruel men on the screen, demanding this outrage stop. When nothing happened, they attacked the missionary running the projector. Perhaps he was responsible for this injustice! He was forced to stop the film and explain that the story wasn't over yet, that there was more. So they settled back onto the ground, holding their emotions in tenuous check.
Then came the Crucifixion. Again, the people could not hold back. They began to weep and wail with such loud grief that once again the film had to be stopped. Again the missionary tried to calm them, explaining that the story still wasn't over yet, that there was more. So once again they composed themselves and sat down to see what happened next..
Then came the Resurrection. Pandemonium broke out this time, but for a different reason. The gathering had spontaneously erupted into a party. The noise now was of jubilation, and it was deafening. The people were dancing and slapping each other on the back. The missionary again had to shut off the projector. But this time he didn't tell them to calm down and wait for what was next. In a sense, all that was supposed to happen-in the story and in their lives- was happening. From “Deepening Your Conversation With God” by Ben Patterson
As I mentioned previously, I am going to a conference on church leadership, where I am certain to hear about effective spiritual leadership. Regardless of what type of work you do, you always hear a lot about the need for good leadership. We usually know the qualities that make for strong and courageous leaders. But what about faithful followers? Following the resurrection the early disciples had to go out and follow the path Jesus had set for them. What makes for good followers?
The bible text for Sunday is Acts 5:27-32. We will sing several more of the great Easter hymns this Sunday.

Forum April 15th:
Living Waters for the World
On April 15, Pam Gunn, coordinator of the Presbytery’s Global Mission Network, will give a presentation on Living Waters for the World and tell about her recent experiences in Haiti. Living Waters for the World is a global mission project that trains and equips church mission teams to bring the gift of clean water to communities in need. Since the beginning of the project in 1996 over one hundred water systems have been installed in fourteen countries.
Half of the water available for drinking around the world is contaminated.
3 million people each year die of water- related illnesses and most are children. By providing a water purification system that is simple and affordable and by teaching local leaders about health and hygiene, Living Waters for the World and its mission teams have been able to help those in communities with unsafe water make their water clean again.

CCPC Youth - Youth Retreat Fundraiser/Scrip Advantage
Scrip is back!!!!
You ask ...what is it? Basically, these are gift cards that you can purchase to use at local area merchants – the places you normally shop or dine. It operates just like the ongoing Giant Food Card program that the Youth sponsor monthly – only this is for other merchandise, and the companies give us a percentage of the card sales to keep as a fundraiser.
While you can certainly buy the cards to use for yourself – think of it as paying in advance for your next dinner out or next trip to the department store, these cards also make great gifts. With Mother’s Day, Graduations, and Weddings coming up, you might think about giving some gift cards. They also make good gifts for the neighbor who brings in your mail when you are away, mows your yard, etc. Maybe you don’t see the specific company you would like to purchase a gift card from, or perhaps you would like a card in a different denomination?? Well, the “scrip” website includes additional vendors and card amounts not on our preprinted attached order listing.
To request a copy of the order form, please email the church at cpcbowie@verizon.net
Please feel free to check out their website at www.glscrip – and you can than add any additional card orders at the bottom of the form.
Timeline – because May is rapidly approaching, and in order to allow for the processing of the cards by the “Scrip” company, we will take orders from now through Sunday, April 29th. This will allow us to distribute the cards on Sunday, May 13.
You can bring completed order forms to church on Sunday, April 15, April 21, or April 29 – Youth will be in Dodds Hall to collect them.
Alternatively, you can drop off completed forms to the church office (please put them in Ajibade Jegede’s mail slot.)
If you have questions, please call: Ajibade Jegede at the church, 301-262-6008; or Debbie Armstrong; or Diane Dudley.
Thank you for your continued support of the CCPC Youth!!

| Work Camp 2007 Update
Dates – Sunday, June 17th and returning Saturday, June 23rd. Sign up sheets are available in the atrium.
Work Camp Update:
Shawn Jegede (410-721-3487) and Danielle Lynch (301-860-1261), have agreed to provide day care during work camp. If you are planning to bring young children, please contact them so they will know how many to expect. If you have not signed up for work camp, please add your name to the sign up sheet. Next month we will form committees to begin planning meals and evening activities. If there will be a large number of children attending, we will have to ask for more assistance or have volunteers help on a rotating basis.
To date: 21 have signed up to participate.
We have a very exciting program planned with several changes this year. First, we will be going to a new location. We will be going to the Pittsburgh, PA area where we will will be working with Hosanna Industries. While there, we plan to take in some cultural activities. Second, the costs will be lower this year. We only have to pay for our food for the week, which we estimate will be about $50 per person. If the actual costs run higher, Mission Committee will help out. Third, if you cannot get away for an entire week, you are welcome to come for just a few days. Just let us know which days you plan to be there so we will ensure we have enough food available. If you are arriving late, we will keep the light on for you.
Thank you.
Paul Sell
