Worship notes for Sunday, April 8th:
Easter Sunday

What is new is that Jacobovici’s group now claims that it is statistically “unlikely” to find these and other purported family members in the same tomb. They also cite DNA evidence (sketchy evidence say most experts) that shows that Jesus and Mary were not related so they were likely to be married (did you read “The DaVinci Code”?)

One has to be suspicious of archaeological projects funded by publishers and movie producers and announced with sensational headlines in search of ratings. Archaeologists work for years and submit their findings to peer reviews before they call Hollywood. Most scholars doubt Jacobovici’s claims. Yet each year it seems a major publication like US News and World Report put Jesus on the cover during the Easter season and the cover article presents the “crucifixion as a fact” and that the resurrection as “ something that the disciples believed happened.”

A verified discovery of Jesus bones would cause a considerable problem for Christians who believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus. Those who argue that it would cause nothing about the faith have a faith that is disconnected from history. If I would announce to the Easter worshipers that “Jesus disciples came to believe that Jesus was risen from the dead,” I doubt it would produce the world shattering transformation it did over 2000 years ago.

Christianity has always been open to attack. Profiteers will always get skeptics to buy books and view programs that attempt to discredits the amazing events of Holy Week. The Apostle Paul writes in Corinthians, “If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.” Most Americans would concur. Come and join the timeless debate on Easter morning.

James Brassard

Forum April 15th: Living Waters for the World

On April 15 Pam Gunn, coordinator of the presbytery’s global mission network, will give a presentation on Living Waters for the World and tell about her recent experiences in Haiti. Living Waters for the World is a global mission project that trains and equips church mission teams to bring the gift of clean water to communities in need. Since the beginning of the project in 1996 over one hundred water systems have been installed in fourteen countries.
Half of the water available for drinking around the world is contaminated.

3 million people each year die of water- related illnesses and most are children. By providing a water purification system that is simple and affordable and by teaching local leaders about health and hygiene, Living Waters for the World and its mission teams have been able to help those in communities with unsafe water make their water clean again

Thanks!
From Race Track Road

Race Track Road (and its neighbors) would like to thank CCPC's youth and members for taking the time and care to clean it up last Saturday morning. Ajibade Jegede, Ryan and Ross Dudley, Katie Sherrick and Emily Freeman were joined by Diane Dudley, Rev. Brassard, Jim Sherrick and Marty Sippel to haul away many, many bags of trash. This service-oriented project is conducted several times a year. It is sponsored by the Youth, but really is an all-church activity! Keep your eyes out for the announcement of our next cleanup time, and come join the group if you can!

Work Camp 2007 Update

Dates – Sunday, June 17th and returning Saturday, June 23rd. Sign up sheets are available in the atrium.

Work Camp Update:
Shawn Jegede and Danielle Lynch, have agreed to provide day care during work camp. If you are planning to bring young children, please contact them so they will know how many to expect. If you have not signed up for work camp, please add your name to the sign up sheet. Next month we will form committees to begin planning meals and evening activities. If there will be a large number of children attending, we will have to ask for more assistance or have volunteers help on a rotating basis.

To date: 21 have signed up to participate.
We have a very exciting program planned with several changes this year. First, we will be going to a new location. We will be going to the Pittsburgh, PA area where we will will be working with Hosanna Industries. While there, we plan to take in some cultural activities. Second, the costs will be lower this year. We only have to pay for our food for the week, which we estimate will be about $50 per person. If the actual costs run higher, Mission Committee will help out. Third, if you cannot get away for an entire week, you are welcome to come for just a few days. Just let us know which days you plan to be there so we will ensure we have enough food available. If you are arriving late, we will keep the light on for you.
Thank you.

Paul Sell

RE: Tidiness of the Church office.
To All CCPC Members and frequent users of the facility:
