The Pastor's Corner
Worship notes for Sunday, April 1st: <Passion Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday is a strange day. In Catholic and Episcopal traditions it is called the “Sunday of the Passion” because the story of Jesus’ suffering and death is always read in its entirety. An Episcopal pastor said his folks always asked him, “How are we supposed to feel?” Crowds are attracted to the festivity of marching into the sanctuary waving Palm Branches and then get hit over the head with the suffering of the crucifixion.
Keeping to my theme of “how the journey to Jerusalem affected the hearts of Jesus’ followers,”this weeks sermon is titled, “Has Anyone Ever Cried for You” based on Luke 19:42 which says that Jesus looked over the city and wept over it saying, “Will they ever know the things that make for peace! “ A powerful drama “Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem on Palm Sunday” directed by Sharon Youngdahl, which features actors Becky and Mark Pfarrer and James Rada, will be presented at both services. The Children’s choir and the Bell Choir will play at 11 AM. Palm Branches will be passed out.

Congratulations!
Maryland Women's Hall of Fame Honoree
We applaud our very own personable, knowledgeable, but humble and approachable Audrey E. Scott, who was inducted into the Maryland Women's Hall of Fame on March 14, 2007. The Maryland commission for Women and the Women Legislators of Maryland established, in 1985, this method of honoring Maryland women not only for their outstanding contributions in all areas of life, but also for being excellent role models for future leaders. The applications of prospective nominees – both contemporary and historical – are carefully reviewed by a selection committee of volunteers prior to being inducted.
In Miller Senate Office Building in Annapolis, true to her wonderful nature, within her acceptance speech, Audrey shared accolades with the numerous volunteers who had worked with her on a myriad of community projects. Did you know that she had taught in Connecticut, France, and Japan? Her influence has truly been international. Since 1970 she has championed positive activities to make things better in the community. To highlight on a few of her accomplishments for which she is credited: the establishment of the Bowie Health Center (1974); Bowie City Council member prior to becoming and serving three terms as the first woman Mayor of Bowie (1976); President of the Maryland Municipal League (1979); appointed Special Assistant in Community Planning and Development for the Department of Housing and Urban Development; promoted to General Deputy Assistant Secretary; represented Fourth Council District on the Prince George's County Council (1994 to 2002); the Board of Education; The Prince George's County Conference and Visitors Bureau; elevated to vice Chairman of the County Council (2001) after having served as Council Representative to several committees; Governor Robert L. Ehrlich selected her to serve as Secretary of Planning (2003) while serving on several Councils including the Governor's Executive Council and the Maryland Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the Interdepartmental Advisory Committee for Minority Affairs; actively involved in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (since 1976) where she worked on the Board of Directors and was appointed Executive Director of the Chapter (1991 to 1994). Her myriad of wards, achievements, accomplishments, and intergenerational contributions have been chronicled; and as one of the awards named her a Maryland Woman of Achievement.
Congratulations again, Honorable Audrey E. Scott ... we applaud you for all that you have done for so many throughout the years, but most of all we care and love you for being a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. May God continue to bless you!

One Great Hour of Sharing
“Who is my neighbor?" Is this year’s theme for the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering. Presbyterians believe that the answer to that question includes anyone who is in need and also others who can work with us to meet that need.
Self-Development of Peoples, one of the recipients of OGHS, works with ecumenical partners to reach poor, oppressed, and disadvantaged communities. Self-Development of Peoples gives grants and loans to community groups around the world to enable them to become self- sufficient.Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, another recipient of OGHS, partners with Action Together International to provide humanitarian assistance in response to disasters such as tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tsunamis.
The third program supported by OGHS is the Presbyterian Hunger Program, which seeks to provide food and training to help people grow their own food.
Through our gifts to OGHS we can share in and celebrate God’s love with neighbors in our own land and around the world. The OGHS Offering will be received on Palm Sunday and on Easter.

The Children's Choir!
The Children's Choir will be singing on Sunday, April 1 (Palm Sunday) and Sunday, April 8 (Easter Sunday) at the 11 AM services only. They will most likely sing a choral prelude -- so it will be at the beginning of the service.
Please make sure that the children can be there for our last rehearsal - Sunday, April 1st at 9:45 AM.
Additionally, the children will gather at 10:30 AM for practice (after the egg hunt!). They will be singing "We're Leading the Way for the King of Kings" on Palm Sunday and "Jesus is Risen, Hallelujah" for Easter. On Palm Sunday, they will be accompanied by the hand bells -- which will be a special treat
Thanks for your help! Susan Ricci Rogel

| Work Camp 2007
Dates – Sunday, June 17th and returning Saturday, June 23rd. Sign up sheets are available in the atrium.
We have a very exciting program planned with several changes this year. First, we will be going to a new location. We will be going to the Pittsburgh, PA area where we will will be working with Hosanna Industries. While there, we plan to take in some cultural activities. Second, the costs will be lower this year. We only have to pay for our food for the week, which we estimate will be about $50 per person. If the actual costs run higher, Mission Committee will help out. Third, if you cannot get away for an entire week, you are welcome to come for just a few days. Just let us know which days you plan to be there so we will ensure we have enough food available. If you are arriving late, we will keep the light on for you.
Finally, if you want to help but don't want to do construction work, there are still opportunities for you. A few women indicated that they would be interested in going along to prepare the meals. Also, we have a few people who want to participate in work camp but they have young infant/toddler children.
If you are interested in preparing meals and/or providing day care, please let Paul Sell know. We are trying to find out how many people will be participating in work camp this year. If you are considering joining us, please sign up now. If your plans change, you can remove your name later. To date, (21) have signed up to participate.
