Fall 2006 - Adult Education Opportunities
Sunday Mornings
Sunday Morning at 9:45
Beginning the Spiritual Journey of Parenthood
Leaders: John Neff and Pam Garwacki
Location: Library
Especially for parents of our younger/preschool-aged children
This informal Sunday school class will provide parents with opportunities to discuss questions that arise about religion, faith, our beliefs, and how our children’s beliefs are formed as they grow from infancy to adulthood. These are difficult issues for adults to discuss, much less explain to our younger children. Discussion of various ideas may assist parents in their own spiritual journey of parenthood, as well as the formation of their child’s relationship with God.
“Something Greater than the Temple is Here” Jesus and the Kingdom of God
Leader: Kevin Clemence Location: Adult Ed Rm
This class will explore some of the social, economic, and political conditions of first century Palestine which provide the historical context to Jesus’ powerful message of the Kingdom of God. Drawing from stories in the Gospel of Mark, we will look deeper and see how the teachings and actions of Jesus were designed to challenge and transform all three areas, placing God and His Kingdom first, restoring the faith in the Covenant, and reaching into the darkest corners of despair to heal.
Bible 101
Leader: Dennis Evans Location: Conference Room
This class is an overview of the Bible and church: the Creation, the Fall; Noah, Abraham, Moses, the Judges, the Kings, the Temple, Prophets, Prophecies, Jesus, the Apostles, the Church. All of these events and people have been used by God as direction signs for us. An overview of the whole Bible will help us place the people and events in a framework that lets us see how they apply to us today. Understanding this framework helps beginning Bible students understand the ”big picture” God has for us and helps those who know Bible stories to place them in overall perspective. Many different learning aids will be used so we will be able to use the Bible it like a direction signs on a map, which are often labeled “You Are Here!” The Bible lets us know where we are, where we should be going and why.
Sunday Evenings
Prayer/Study
The Prayer/Study group meets on the first and third Sunday evenings at 7:30. It will begin the new year on Sunday, Sept. 17 and will choose their study book for the year at that meeting.
